Wrist Grip Breaking Technique

1 of 70+ Articles here at SDS

Visit a website with three photos that show how to break an attacker’s grip on you. Try it yourself, learn about a weak link and how to use it to break for freedom. How this technique uses the element of surprise twice.

If someone was to grab you by the wrist, you can regain your freedom by using the element of surprise to trick the wrist grabbing person into letting go of you. The simple technique that you are about to learn is one that I haven’t heard of myself (till now). So let’s look at it together…

To learn how to do this grip breaking technique, we are going off into cyberspace to visit another website. It’s the "Midwest Chinese Martial Arts Center."When the page loads, we will see the first of three photos. Josh French and Sifu Winokur, who appear in the photos, will show us, in three easy steps, how this technique is done.Click the link below and let’s go and take a look (read through the steps more than once):

Now try it on yourself

  1. Hold one of your wrists with your other hand, the same way that Josh French holds Sifu Winokur’s wrist.

  2. Turn so that the gripping palm is facing UP. Push down and bend at your knees, as described. Then quickly throw the melon, as they put it, over your shoulder… clever hey?

What happens is… when you push down, your grabber friend will resist. A lot of the pressure is on the grabber’s palm and little pressure is on his fingers, which are slightly relaxed.

Remember the old saying… "A chain is only as strong as its weakest link?" The slightly relaxed fingers are a weakness in the grabber’s link. We now know how to use that weakness to break for freedom, but we must do the technique quickly.

The change from pushing down, to throwing the melon, MUST be instant! We need to go from pushing down to lifting up, without backing off the downward pressure first. If we ease up even a little bit, the fingers will tighten.

In my opinion, the downward pressure shouldn’t last long… 1 second max. This technique uses the element of surprise twice, once pushing down, then lifting up. The longer you are pushing down, the more the surprise fades. So, when the grabber reacts with resistance, it’s time for you to throw the melon.
