You will find the information in this article useful if you travel, rent or own your own home. If you live in fear of your home being invaded by an old boy friend with a key, or an unknown intruder, read on!
Do you travel and stay in accommodation like motels and resorts? Do you live in a rented flat, unit, apartment or house? Do you own your own home and have given someone a key to it, but wish you didn't? Or maybe your home is pretty secure, but you would like just that little bit more security?
If you are in a motel room and you lock the door, you may as well not have bothered! Apart from motel workers bursting in whenever they want to, thieves (especially in holiday areas) may have keys to your room as well.
Thieves will watch you and wait for their chance to go into your room and help themselves to whatever they want. They may not wait! Motel rooms can be pretty sound proof, and can make great home invasion type settings. Your holiday could turn into a real nightmare!
If you are renting a place, ANYONE could have a key! Changing the locks may not be an option for financial reasons, or your landlord just won't let you. There is a cheap quick fix that you may be interested in. But first, what if you don't rent, but own your own home.
Your home should be your safe haven, but it may not be. Home invasions are something you may not have heard about or want to know about, but you should!
In the self-defense information section of this website, there is an article called, "Self-Defense in Your Home." In it, you will learn what to do if you have an uninvited guest, and how to plan for it. The short answer to "what to do if your home has an intruder" is, "get out."
You may wake in the night and hear someone in, or trying to get into you home. You know to get out and get help, but he is heading your way - and fast!
You are in a room that you can get out of by climbing through a window. But you need a few seconds to do it, and without hurting yourself in the process (a few cuts and bruises are however, a small price to pay for a second chance at life).
There is a device available that you may find useful. It is called the Dead Bolt Buddy.
The Dead Bolt Buddy is a small device that can be quickly fitted onto most doorknobs. Once fitted, it will stop the doorknob being turned from either side. Locking the door to the room you are in would give you a few extra seconds of escape time.
Click on the link below and take a quick look at a photo of The Dead Bolt Buddy. This website sells them online and after doing a bit of searching around, I found it to be the cheapest at $7.95. Most sites, that offer it, are selling it for $12 or more.

If you are a handy kind of person, or know someone who is, you may be able to make something that would do the same job. Although… for the sake of eight dollars, it's probably not worth the hassles (just a thought).
If you are planning to travel, are renting, or own your own home, being able to lock a door that has no lock, may one day save your life! You may find it useful!
