Cheap Stun Gun - How does it Work

1 of 70+ Articles here at SDS

Amps, watts, and volts make working out whether a cheap stun gun will be effective, difficult, and confusing to the average person. An average person who just wants a cheap stun gun that will do the job. Let's take a look at how a stun gun gets its power. What designers are doing with the amps and volts in order to meet customer demands.

Stun guns use the marvels of modern technology to turn the power of one or two 9 volt batteries (which is what they run on) into between
80,000 volts and 625,000 volts. They use capacitors to store and build up the high voltage "zapping power" that stun guns are famous for.

Resistors, capacitors, chips and circuit boards, amps, watts, and volts are behind the scene making all of our electronic gadgets and devices work, and so they do in stun guns.

High voltage

One of the keys to selling is to give people what they want. Makes sense, doesn't it? People want a stun gun with lots of "takedown" power, and so they should! The problem is, people think that a higher voltage, and priced, stun gun is more powerful and therefore has more stopping power than a cheap stun gun.

This is NOT true!

Why?

Because it's NOT the volts that give a stun gun its power, but the amps. One amp, together with just 50 volts can kill a person and have been known to do so.

You can have a stun gun with 625,000 volts and only point 1 or 2 of an amp (that's 10 or 20 percent of one amp). Or you can have a cheap stun gun with only 100,000 volts, but with point 3 or 4 amps and it will be just as powerful.

Amps can kill

It's a bit like baking a cake. If the mix isn't right, the cake won't cook properly. Or in the world of stun guns, if the amps are too high (1 amp), the stun gun will kill. But if they are too low, an attacker will laugh at you.

The designers of stun guns meet customer demands by lowering the amps and raising the voltage and the prices. Most stun guns have point 1 or 2 of an amp and as I said at the beginning of this article, they have between 80,000 volts and 625,000 volts.

The designer's mentality is, keep the amps low so no-one gets killed, and increase the volts to make the customers happy. Not to make a better, more powerful and effective stun gun.

Conclusion

If you are looking at buying a cheap stun gun, find out how many amps it has, and go for the one with the highest amps (point 3 or point 4 of an amp). You will also find that the higher amp, lower volt stun guns are smaller in size and weigh less, which is a good thing.
