An Air Taser looks much the same as a stun gun (the M-Series look more like a normal gun). An Air Taser can be used as a stun gun if you miss your target with its probes. The probes (two small pin-like rods) are fired from the gun at:135-feet per second (about 45m per second). The probes have a range of 15-feet (5m) and must spread apart at least 6-inches (150mm) before they hit a target. The probes need to spread apart to have maximum "stun" effects.
Air Taser starts at 18-watts and can have as much as 26-watts of power output. A good stun gun will have 18-watts of power. Because an Air Taser has more power, it can work better/faster than stun guns - take someone down faster.
When the Air Taser probes hit the target and are at least 6-inches apart, 650,000 volts of electricity run from the Air Taser gun, along attached wires, and into the target. The Air Taser "messes" with the brain's ability to control muscle movements.
Because the Air Taser has more power than a standard stun gun, the effect it has on the receiver is felt more quickly. If the probes are not far enough apart, however, the receiver may be able to remove the probes and stop the disabling effects before he is taken down to the ground.
Should you get an Air Taser
If you are thinking of getting an Air Taser for personal protection, I hope, by reading this article, you will change your way of thinking! In short, Air Tasers have two problems…
An Air Taser MUST be fired between seven and ten feet from a target, and the probes must be at least 6-inches apart upon contact. Any closer, or if the probes are narrower, it may not work. Any further, and it may not be self-defense.
If a person is more than three feet away from you, they can not be considered an immediate threat to you - unless they have a gun pointing at you. For stunning someone to be an act of self-defense, you must be of the belief that your physical well-being is about to be compromised. An Air Taser can however, be a valuable "tool" for security personal:
Picture this…
"FREEZE! Drop the knife… Drop the knife, NOW!"
Bang…Zap.
The knifeman is hit with Air Taser probes, and drops to the ground - stunned.
An Air Taser can be a valuable "tool" for security personal and law-enforcement agencies like the Police Force. If an offender is cornered, but is slow to surrender, an Air Taser gives the user another option other than shooting to kill. It can and has, saved lives! Plus…
Policewomen and men work in pairs, as a team. If they have someone cornered and there is a standoff, one officer may have a gun pointing at an offender while the other has an Air Taser (depending on the situation, of course). If the Air Taser misses its mark, there is back-up (another officer with a gun). Not the case for the general pubic…we're on our own!

Conclusion
If the person you want to shoot with an Air Taser is less than 7-feet from you, its probes may not spread apart enough to work properly. Also, the receiver may be able to remove the probes. Before you buy an Air Taser, compare them to pepper spray. You will find that pepper spray is more suitable for personal protection.
