Learn how being in a dream-like state can make you stand out from the crowd as an easy target for violent crime? Discover the recipe for an attacker's ideal plan of attack. How to remove the first two ingredients from the attack recipe, so the remaining three are of no use.

Do you walk along a regular route at night? Maybe you’re on your way home from work, the shops, or from a friend’s place. How aware are you of your surroundings and who’s in them? You’re a busy person, right? You always have a big, long eventful day, and because of this, on your way home, you may be in a dream-like state of mind. This state makes you more vulnerable to an attack.

This is a big one, because a person who plans an attack, may spend some time watching your movements (maybe over a few weeks) and note the times that you are at a certain place.

People follow patterns… attackers know this and use it to their advantage.

The patterns include the route you walk, the time you come and go, and most importantly, your state of mind while you are walking.

When we do things over and over (like coming home from work), we tend to switch off to what is going on around us and think about all kinds of things. For example: what happened today at work, what to have for dinner, and what we are going to do tomorrow.

It is really quite easy to see when someone is walking along in a dream-like state of mind. They look down at the ground in front of them for longer than a fully aware person would. They don’t look at things that are going on around them that an aware person would naturally look at – an odd noise, a passing car, or person. They also tend to walk more slowly.

Let’s paint a picture that illustrates the attacker’s point of view.

He has seen you walking along the same street before. He has a good idea, as to who else is likely to be in the area at that time. He has identified you as a dreamer, and walking alone.

All he needs now is a safe place for the attack to take place (safe for him). Ideally, isolated areas like a park or car park are best, because these places minimize the risk of being seen. If there are no witnesses, it’s your word against his, if he gets caught. Which will make it easier for him to get away with it.

The following is a recipe for an attacker's ideal plan of attack:

  • Plan well - find a lone-dreamer.

  • Surprise - hit hard and fast.

  • Leave without being seen.

  • Don’t leave any clues.

  • Get what attacker wants - money, sex.

You see… if you ARE aware, you don’t stand out as an easy target. Being aware also makes it hard for someone to plan well for an attack. If you ARE aware, it makes taking advantage of the element of surprise VERY difficult for an attacker.

Remove the first two ingredients from the attack recipe and the remaining three are of no use.

Are you beginning to see how a dream-like state can make you stand out from the crowd as an easy target for violent crime? Try to stay aware while walking alone in public places. If you do, you will dramatically improve your chances of getting to where you are going without becoming a target for violent crime.

Better still… don’t be out on your own at night if you can avoid it!
