How to Travel and Stay Thief Free

1 of 70+ Articles here at SDS

Whenever you travel from one place to another, be it, by plane, train, bus or by car, you stand a chance of being the victim of a mugging or pickpocket thief. This article will give you a few ideas that will help you avoid thieves while traveling.

If at all possible, plan to get to where you are going during daylight hours. If you are attacked, it’s safer, and smarter to give the thief what he or she wants. Anything of high value or sentimental value should not be carried inside your wallet or handbag. Make it easy for yourself to just hand it over.

Just hand over your bag, wallet and or money. Give the thief all but your life. If your valuables are not enough for the thief (he wants to hurt you), you may need to use one or more of the moves in the self-defense technique section of this website.

Your back pockets

Carrying a wallet or anything else in the back pockets of your jeans or shorts is most inviting for thieves. The back pockets are a really easy target for them.

It's no trouble at all to slash a hole in your back pocket with a sharp knife or razor blade. Give them the opportunity, and they will steal whatever you have got in your pockets or bag.

Pickpocket thieves work at lightening fast speed and do so more easily in a crowded place - like in a train, or during the push and shove of boarding public transport. Be aware of this risk factor when you’re standing in a crowded place.

How you look

Another way to attract attention to you is by wearing expensive jewellery and clothes to match. The singer/piano player "Liberace" springs to mind. Well maybe that's a bit extreme (all the rings and glitter), but you get the picture… right?

This kind of attention makes you an instant target for thieves. When you're traveling, you can make yourself look like you’re not worth robbing. Thieves won't risk getting caught for what they think will be only a small taking.

They want it all and they want it now. Otherwise they would get an honest job like most of the rest of us. They would earn their keep in this world and not be parasites.

So, to travel and stay thief free, try to avoid attracting attention from thieves… dress down and casual. Try to avoid eye contact with people, especially when you're in an unfamiliar place.

Just think, if there were no recreational type drugs, including alcohol, in the world, there would be no thieves (at least not many), and we could all strut around looking like Liberace.

Conclusion

When traveling, do so during daylight hours. If you are robbed, give the thief what he or she wants. You can dress down and casual, and try to avoid eye contact. Remember that your back pocket is an easy target for thieves. Also, try to be more aware of your belongings when in crowded places.
