Self-Defense - The Decision you Make

1 of 70+ Articles here at SDS

The bottom line is this: If you survive, you win!

I truly believe that to defend yourself is like surviving a car crash: If you survive… be happy!I know, I know, that’s a pretty far-out way of looking at it, but at the end of the day, accept that if you are still here on this earth after an attack...You did or will do the right thing, at the right time, under the circumstances you were or will be in. You can only do what you think is right at the time. Accept that you did or will do what you had or have to do, to survive.Bottom line… (although it may not feel like it for some time), if you survive, you win! After an attack, you may have people (closely related people) say, "why were you there, what were you thinking, don’t you know that’s dangerous?"You may have people say (behind your back), "She/he deserved it, if you want to do things like that, you’ve got to expect something to happen!"

Or this… "What was she/he doing there, what was she/he, crazy!"

The point is… people are quick to judge. They don’t need to be there, they don’t need any facts. All they need to judge you is there beliefs, which for most of us, are developed through "social conditioning."We are all subjected to social conditioning in one form or another. Let me prove it to you:

  • Just do it!

  • Coke-a-cola is it!

  • It’s Mac time now at Mac Donald’s!

Nike, Coke-a-cola, Mac Donald’s are all big businesses with big marketing budgets. They have the best marketing people in the world working for them, and their goal is to make the companies they work for, a household name and keep them that way (they have succeeded). Most of us buy products because we believe them to be the best for our needs. In reality, "clever marketing" controls our beliefs. We are being brainwashed on a daily basis. In future, don’t let anyone put you down by telling you that you did the wrong thing. Know that under the circumstances you were or will be in, and with the knowledge you had or will have at the time, you did or will do, all that you could or can do at the time of the attack. If you are or were attacked, try not to look back too much or too often and think, if only I did that, why did I let that happen, I should have done this or that. You WILL think that way, it’s part of the healing process (a very stormy part), but it will fade as time goes on. Life will go on!In my opinion, MOST of the people who buy a stun gun or pepper spray have recently been attacked (or know someone who has). Why? Because what comes after the, "if only I did that, why did I let that happen, I should have done this or that" process, is a very strong, "I will not let it happen to me again" process.People think that a weapon will solve all their problems. In reality, a weapon is a quick fix that (like the above processes) will soon fade.

Because you are reading the articles on this website, you have already made a decision to improve your self-defense skills, knowledge and awareness. You are doing MUCH more than most people ever do! Keep up the good work!

Conclusion

Whatever decision you make when confronted by an attacker, it is the right or best decision you can make with the knowledge you have at that time! Whether people can understand it or not, is something they have to deal with. Don’t let other people’s beliefs and opinions affect you. Remember that clever marketing controls our beliefs. The bottom line is this: If you survive, you win!
